Description

Leonardo - Orange Wine - Trebbiano & Albana 2019

The 2020 growing season in the hills between Romagna and Toscana was overall balanced, with early warmth followed by stable summer conditions. LEONARDO 2019 is crafted from a blend of Albana and Trebbiano, combining structure with aromatic finesse in a nuanced, layered profile. The grapes were hand-harvested at night on August 27-28th, 2019.

This cuvée is inspired by the traditional winemaking practices of the hills between Toscana and Romagna, where farmers historically blended Albana and Trebbiano to achieve greater balance. LEONARDO adopted this approach using the highly concentrated juice obtained from the intense pressing of both varieties, resulting in an orange-colored wine of pronounced strength, aromatic intensity, and depth.

Fermentation and maturation began with 6 months in stainless-steel tanks, followed by 6 months of refinement in wooden barriques. The wine was then bottled and further aged in our cellar, allowing its character to integrate and evolve. The wine displays a radiant golden–amber color, both luminous and elegant, with a dense yet brilliant visual texture that conveys purity and vitality.

The wine shows a bright amber color with warm golden reflections, dense and consistent, clear indicators of maturity and concentration.

The nose is original, elegant, and distinctive, recalling the “forgotten fruits” of the chalky slopes of Riolo Terme: quince, medlar, and ripe pear, followed by tea leaf, tobacco, and delicate honey. Resinous nuances introduce depth and an autumnal warmth.

On the palate, the wine is complex and enveloping. It opens with soft, honeyed tones before revealing a precise interplay of fruit and acidity. A subtle tannic framework provides structure and rhythm without aggressiveness.

The finish is long and harmonious, alternating gentle sweetness with marked minerality, leaving a rich, authentic, and persistent impression.

A fascinating and complex wine, not immediate but deeply rewarding — ideal for creative or spiced cuisines. A wine of character, authenticity, and notable satisfaction.

*** At DIVINALUX, we use only a refined touch of sulfites—just enough to protect the wine as it ages, without overshadowing its purity. While sulfites may be more noticeable in wine than in food due to the presence of alcohol, they remain discreet for most consumers.

Our philosophy is simple: minimal intervention, maximum elegance.

*** In 2017, our Estate received official Organic Certification for all agricultural activities, including the production of wine, olive oil, and other farm products. Although 2017 marks the first year of certified organic status, the Estate had been in conversion since 2013, and even prior to that it was cultivated in accordance with the organic requirements of the Regional Park regulations. As a result, all our wines have been produced according to organic standards for many years; however, from the 2017 vintage onward, we are officially authorized to display the Organic Production Symbol on all our labels.

A blend of Albana and Trebbiano, Leonardo 2019 shows a luminous amber hue with rich, lively texture. The bouquet reveals quince, medlar, and pear, alongside tea, tobacco, and honey, expressing both fruit maturity and the chalky soul of Riolo Terme’s hills. On the palate, it is soft and articulated, opening with honeyed notes, followed by balanced freshness and a fine, gentle tannin. The finish is long and elegant, with a play of salinity and smoothness that keeps the sip vibrant. A wine of depth and personality, perfect for inventive pairings and cuisines of character.
